Not long ago, I came across this little e-card that someone had posted on Facebook, and I thought to myself, “Hmm, there is actually a bit of truth to this*.” I just turned 27 (see post below this), and I do have quite a few weddings to go to this summer. I was in one wedding as the best man about a month ago, we have a wedding to go to this Saturday, another one next Saturday, and then two more at the end of the summer/beginning of fall. Apparently, the kids are gettin’ married these days. And it shouldn’t be too surprising as the average age of first marriage has been steadily climbing for several years (it’s now 28-is for males and 26-ish for females). This has created an interesting period of several years between finishing high school (getting a job or going on to college) and marriage, which has created a host of interesting questions and implications that researchers have been discussing, but I’ll not delve into that here (some have called it “emerging adulthood”).
So at 27, it’s not surprising that my friends are tying the knot! For now, I’ll just go ahead and continue to enjoy seeing friends at weddings, buffets, open bars, and wedding DJ’s! Enjoy this clip from the great movie, Wedding Crashers. It certainly is wedding season (start at about 1:35):
I don’t even have to worry about crashing weddings, because I am legitimately invited to several!
*While I can vouch for the correlation of being 27 with having lots of weddings to go to (and research backs me up on this one), I cannot verify the claim made about Forever 21. I also would have to disagree with the hangover claim being made. Perhaps it’s because I have yet to leave college (woo-hoo grad school!), but I am extremely thankful that hangovers are still a very rare occurrence for me which means that the drinking (i.e. the fun) doesn’t have to stop at two drinks.
