Movie in the Park

24 Aug

Well friends, I’ve said it several times – living in a big college town that is not in a big city has lots of perks.  There is a plethora of entertainment, dining, and drinking options – and nearly all for an extremely good price.  There’s also plenty of stuff that doesn’t necesarily go through the university, but are still great options for fun.

Last weekend we went to an outdoor movie in the park – The Wizard of Oz.  You can’t get much more classic than that.  As Em said (and I agreed), “I feel like we’re in some sort of movie, watching a movie outside in the park.”  That’s fertile ground for some rom-com at it’s finest.

The crowd (not too big, which was perfect).

Chowin’ down on some popcorn that we brought.

The movie screen itself.

Overall, it was a great night!  The weather was perfect, the crowd was the right size, we had popcorn, and the movie was classic (I had almost forgotten what a good movie The Wizard of Oz was.).  And it was free!

We plan on heading back to A Streetcar Named Desire to start this weekend off!

Enjoy your weekend!

A couple of highlights from the Wizard of Oz: the clip is a spoof from the movie Rocket Man – a great movie.  The next two are a couple of great quotes from the movie.

Dorothy: How can you talk if you haven’t got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don’t know… But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking… don’t they?

Wizard of Oz: Why, anybody can have a brain. That’s a very mediocre commodity. Every pusillanimous creature that crawls on the Earth or slinks through slimy seas has a brain. Back where I come from, we have universities, seats of great learning, where men go to become great thinkers. And when they come out, they think deep thoughts and with no more brains than you have. But they have one thing you haven’t got: a diploma.

It isn’t free, funded by tuition and taxpayers. Knowing IU’s fiscal responsiblity history, it probably costs each student $20.

How dare you question IU! We never waste more than a billion a year. I will raise your tuition! I would love to chat more, but my private jet is here.
