Best Thing I’ve Eaten This Week

Inside of this very ordinary looking silver packet is the victor of the best thing thing I’ve eaten this week.  This victory was made possible – in part – by an unseasonably warm Saturday afternoon.  An afternoon that inspired us to get out the grill.

And inside that shiny silver packet – drumroll………….

Swai fish and vegetables!  This is a delicious kind of fish that is quite meaty, almost a “fish steak” if you will.  The filets that we get are also quite large; in fact, we are able to split one filet between the two of us (depending on my level of hunger and what our sides are!).

So we made ourselves a little swai packet that was packed with some flavors – carrots, grape tomatoes, and lemon pepper seasoning.  We then sealed it up and threw it on the grill.

While I was manning the grill, Em threw together a quick salad and made some delicious garlic bread.  It turned out to be the perfect choice for a mid-January grill day.

Here’s an approximate price breakdown for those playing along at home:

~$.50 – swai filet (~$4.00 for a package of 8 frozen filets)

~$.50 – carrots and tomatoes (we really didn’t use many veggies in this dish)

~$.25 – garlic bread (we found a french bread loaf for $.50; we used half – 4 slices)

~$.25 – salad (it was a pretty basic iceberg mixed salad)

~$1.50 Total for both of us to eat a good meal (not sure we could find a place where we could both eat for that amount!)

It was an unusual treat to be grilling out at this time of year.  I’m glad we got to take advantage.

    On a day that we lost Marvin Long, namesake of Greencastle’s “Marvin’s” and a DePauw institution, it is a shame that any other food product could be celebrated over a GCB. You may not have eaten it this week, but the lifetime of memories that garlic cheeseburger has given you deserves the electronic ink given to the swai filets.

    In all my years affiliated with DePauw University, I was under the impression that Marvin delivers everywhere. I guess we found the exception to that rule: Trokspot. For shame.
